मेहरा एक खत्री कुलनाम है। जो की कौशल गौत्र के अंतर्गत आता है

यह मेहरा की एक विस्तारित संस्करण, मिहिर, जो सूर्य को संदर्भित करता है से ली गई है। मेहरोत्रा का शाब्दिक अर्थ सूर्य पुत्र (क्षत्रिय के भीतर सूर्यवंशी कबीले का नाम होता है) है।कबीले का गौत्र कौशल है। ‘वितर्क नार्त मार्कण्‍डमिहिरारूण पूषण:’ अमर कोष की व्‍युत्‍पत्ति के अनुसार मेहरोत्रा अल्‍ल ‘मिहिरोत्‍तर’ से संबंधित है। मेहरोत्रा इसी शब्‍द का अपभ्रंश है। मेहरा सूक्ष्‍म नाम है तथा मल्‍होत्रा सी का परिवर्तित रूप है।
अत्‍यंत प्राचीन काल में सूर्य वंश के लिए मिहिर वंश का प्रयोग होता आ रहा है , जिसका प्रमाण राजतरंगिणी जैसे अनेक ऐतिहासिक ग्रंथों में भी है। कुछ विद्वान मिहिरावतार का ही अपभ्रंश ‘मेहरोत्रा’ को मानते हें। गोत्र निर्णय से भी प्राचीन काल में मिहिर क्षत्रियों के पुरोहित वशिष्‍ठ के पुत्र ‘जीतल’ के वंशज जीतली सारस्‍वत ब्राह्मण आजतक मेहरोत्रा खत्रियों के भी पुरोहित रहे हैं। वास्‍तव में इस मेहरोत्रा अल्‍ल की इस सूर्यवंशी शाखा की प्रामाणिकता के लिए इतने प्रमाण मिले हैं कि किसी प्रकार की किवंदंती आधारहीन और असत्‍य सिद्ध हो जाती है।कौशल गौत्र गद्दी का नाम श्री बीरा जी है । कुलदेवी शिवाय माता हैं ।कुलदेवता श्री बीरा जी हैं वर्तमान में कौशल गौत्र की गद्दी का प्रचार, प्रसार व नाम दान सेवा नन्द किशोर कौशल द्वारा संभाली हुई है 🌹आपका सुखद भविष्य मेरा लक्ष्य🌹 नन्द किशोर कौशल (पानीपत)
