इसी पर गोवर्धन पीठ के शंकराचार्य स्वामी निश्चलानंद सरस्वती जी ने एक विज्ञप्ति में कहा कि सनातन धर्म की सदियों पुरानी परंपरा का उल्लंघन कर श्री मंदिर में सभी को प्रवेश की अनुमति देना हमें स्वीकार्य नहीं है।
गोवर्धन पीठ के शंकराचार्य जी श्री जगन्नाथ मंदिर में पंडितों की शीर्ष संस्था मुक्ति मंडप के प्रमुख होते हैं।
गजपति राजा दिब्यसिंह देव ने भी कहा कि वार्षिक रथयात्रा के दौरान भगवान जगन्नाथ, बलराम और सुभद्रा को मंदिर से बाहर ले जाया जाता है ताकि वे विभिन्न धर्मों के भक्तों को आशीर्वाद दे सकें और ‘स्नान उत्सव’ के दौरान भी लाखों लोग उन्हें देखते हैं। उन्होंने कहा कि मंदिर प्रबंध समिति रथयात्रा के बाद इस मुद्दे पर चर्चा करेगी और श्री जगन्नाथ मंदिर प्रशासन उसी अनुरूप कदम उठाएगा।
12वीं सदी में निर्मित इस मंदिर में अभी सिर्फ हिंदुओं के प्रवेश की अनुमति है। इसे श्री मंदिर के नाम से भी जाना जाता है।
